We had a game jam last week, and here are the results:

First up was Caverns, from Michael Cistera, with lots of particles and a “little” platforming

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next we had Joust from Graham Smith, no relation to the arcade classic (except that they’re both fun)

And finally Through the Void from Philip Homan, though I doubt you’ll get all the way through

I’m happy to announce that the first ever VGDC Game Jam will take place from November 27th to December 4th, 2012. Get a team together and make a game in a week!

To enter your team, come to the kickoff event at on Nov. 27 at 6:00 p.m. in 3-115 Keller Hall. Refreshments provided!

Projectile Ocean

Presenting our first completed group project, Projectile Ocean! Projectile Ocean is about a penguin who must defend his home from fish. It features 4 enemies, 3 weapons, and gameplay affected by changing water levels. Written in Javascript with HTML5, it was developed from March to June 2012 by Graham Smith, Nate Buck, Ryan Haasken, Kevin Mehlhaff, Buyu Chen, and Drew Tenenbaum. We’ll be presenting possible games to make for this semester at tonight at 6 pm, Keller 3-115. Come on over and check it out!

 

Our first general meeting is being held tonight at 6:00pm in Tate 131 (the Physics lab). For anyone who wants a peek at what we’ll be talking about, or for anyone to review after the meeting, you can view our presentation slides here.

On the weekend of April 20th-22nd, the University of Minnesota’s Video Game Development Club will be hosting a game jam event to coincide with Ludum Dare 23. We’ll each be making a game over the course of the weekend. We’ll get food and make games, and have fun. If you haven’t got much experience, we can get you started, but make sure to bring a computer and some ideas. Students and non-students alike are welcome, but if you are planning on coming, please send us an email at vgdc@umn.edu

 

We’ll be getting together at these locations and times:

Keller Hall 2-260, 7 pm – midnight on April 20th

STSS 420A, 3pm – 8pm on April 21st

Drew presented his game concept Make Your Own Minions last Friday. If you recall, it’s a puzzle/action game where the player is pressed to quickly create an army out of spare parts and use it to defeat foes. It’s going to be a great project, contact him if you’re interested at tenen007@umn.edu
